Cockies Beer

Made by the Barrabool Hills Brewing Company.

Where to Buy?

Cockies Beer is sold directly from the Brewery at 112 Balliang Street South Geelong. Packaged beer is available Monday - Friday 8-5pm and currently stocked at a number of local bottle shops and restaurants as below:

Fresh and Fruity Flavours

The fresh hops produced some fabulous citrus and fruity flavours, which we able to duplicate on a larger scale brew. Until our stainless tanks arrive from China, Cavalier in Derrimut have kindly allowed us to use their equipment.

We also used the best quality Australian Malts, plus a small percentage of imported crystal and Munich malts. We are currently working on two other popular beers, an IPA and a Pilsener to add to the range. Stay tuned for the progress!

Made Locally

In our recipe development for our delicious Pale Ale, we used locally grown hops from the Barrabool Hills, varieties including Cascade, Chinook and Mt Hood. Cockies Beer is now made from our brewery in South Geelong.

The Story

The Barrabool Hills Brewing Company, began in the hills just outside of Geelong and lead by Geelong boy and Cockies Master Brewer, Jamie Roydhouse, produces small batch craft beers. Jamie practiced Pharmacy while his hobby became his obsession.

Barrabool Hills Brewery is now located at 112 Balliang St, South Geelong [right up the end of Balliang St.] The cellar door is open on Friday afternoons between 4-7pm and other times for special events which you can find out about via our cockiesbeer instagram and facebook pages. Take-away packaged beer is available any time we are working. For more details call Matt on 0406752043.

Hops

Hops put the 'bitter' in beer and are grown in similar environments to that of grape vines. There are so many different varieties to choose from when brewing.

The hops for Cockies Ocean Road Pale Ale are a blend of four:

Citra

displays aromas of lemon, orange and grapefruit. Providing a very clean citrus flavour.

Cascade

has aroma of spicy flowers with a very smooth bitterness component, mainly used in the recipe is for the bittering, which is on the very low side.

Goldings

shows aroma of mixed citrus and florals and flavours of peach and apricot. Mainly used for aroma rather than bittering

Mosiac

gives the aromas of tropical fruits and berries.
